These special bags contain a third middle layer of finely perforated polyethylene, which filters out the solids in the sample when used in a homogenizer blender. Bags feature a filter layer of finely perforated polyethylene, to separate the liquid and solids, allowing for easy pipetting of the sample. The hole diameter in the filter layer measures .013 inches (.33 mm), 330 microns, and there are 1,840 holes per square inch, 285 per square cm. The filter is sealed into the perimeter of the bag on the sides and bottom, allowing the sample to be placed in the bag on either side. The liquid will transfer through the filter, but the solids stay on one side.
Capacity is measured in fluid ounces when the bag is closed and tab is folded over three times. Volume and dimensions are approximate; bags should not be used at temperatures above 180° F (82° C). Bags can be frozen to any temperature, even liquid nitrogen - careful handling required after freezing. All bags are sterilized after manufacturing.

The Whirl-Pak® Stand-Up Bag makes sample handling and testing much easier because it gives users the ability to perform important laboratory functions with both hands, because the bag will stand completely by itself. No rack or other holder is needed to keep the bag upright. When the sample is placed inside, the special gusseted bottom flattens out, allowing the bag to stand up on its own. It works just like a beaker or bottle, however, it costs less, is sterilized, won't break, and uses only a fraction of storage space as the other containers.
The white, write-on strip makes sample identification easier and more convenient. It's easy to write on this white strip using an ordinary ballpoint pen, pencil, or felt-tip marker. The paper-like finish virtually eliminates ink smearing, and provides a surface that will accept a variety of writing instruments.
Capacity is measured in fluid ounces when the bag is closed and tab is folded over three times. Volume and dimensions are approximate; bags should not be used at temperatures above 180° F (82° C). Bags can be frozen to any temperature, even liquid nitrogen temperatures down to -346° F (-210° C) - careful handling required after freezing. All bags are sterilized after manufacturing.

Sludge Judge® - 15 ft. (4.60 m)
Supplier #: C09247
Do NOT use for sampling ethanol or ethanol blended fuel.
The Sludge Judge® is designed to take accurate readings of settleable solids, 5% or less, in a variety of liquids, to any depth. It is ideal for sewage treatment plants, chemical plants, and food processing facilities - anywhere that accurate sample levels of settleable solids in noncaustic materials are needed. The unit holds approximately 3 oz. per foot (89 ml per 0.31 m). The Sludge Judge® comes in 5 ft. (1.53 m) sections of 3/4 in. (1.90 cm) plastic pipe with screw-type connectors. The top section includes a nylon rope for raising and lowering the sampler. Individual sections can be combined as required to achieve the length needed. Do not use in liquids over 165° F (74° C). Sludge Judge® is not autoclavable. A convenient cotton canvas carrying case that holds four sections, a cleaning brush, cleaning rod, and cotton strips are available.
To use:
1. Slowly lower the Sludge Judge® to the bottom of the tank. The float valve opens (see figure A), allowing materials to flow in. When the bottom has been reached and the pipe has filled to the surface level, tug slightly on the rope as the unit is raised. This sets the check valve(see figure B), trapping the mixture inside.
2. When the unit has been raised clear of the liquid, the amount of solids in the sample can be read using the 1 ft. (0.31 m) increments marked on the pipe sections. To release the material in the unit, touch the pin extending from the bottom section against a hard surface. This opens the check valve to drain the sample. One-year warranty.
